Ethnicity and Substance Abuse: Prevention and Intervention

Ma (public and community health, Temple U.) and Henderson (human relations, sociology, and education, U. of Oklahoma) present 16 contributions that explore cultural factors that affect substance abuse, review relevant research studies, and provide suggestions for improving community level substance prevention and intervention programs in the United States. Three introductory essays discuss concepts of addiction, effective cross- cultural communication in drug abuse intervention, and social ecology and substance abuse programs. Remaining chapters focus on issues specific to African American, Asian American, Hispanic American, and Native American populations.
