Textbook of Diagnostic Ultrasonography encompasses the four main divisions within ultrasonography: General/Abdominal Sonography, Vascular Sonography, Obstetric/Gynecologic Sonography, and an introduction to Echocardiography. All areas include discussions of pediatric considerations as appropriate. General/Abdominal and Vascular uses a body-systems approach, whereas Ob/Gyn uses a chronologic approach to development during pregnancy and an anatomic approach to gynecologic pathology. A two-chapter survey of echocardiography is provided for those students who may choose later to specialize in it. Reviewers commented consistently that trying to use the color inserts of the fourth edition was cumbersome. The new edition will have four-color throughout. The fifth edition of Textbook of Diagnostic Ultrasonography will include more than 60% new halftones as well as four-color rendering of the line art. Sonographers can tell from the images whether the newer equipment was used, so the updated images are well worth the investment.
