Relevant, user-friendly math for today’s liberal arts students
In an increasingly complex world where both information and misinformation are growing rapidly, it’s important that students learn to think critically and become comfortable with the numerical information all around them. The high-interest applications, emphasis on problem solving, and clear writing style of Mathematics All Around has earned praise from both instructors and students, making it one of the most popular liberal arts mathematics texts available. And when used in conjunction with MyLab® Math, it can be used very effectively for online courses.
With new co-author Margaret Moore, the 7th Edition builds on this success―showing instructors and students how they can use various apps, spreadsheets, and other technologies in their problem solving, incorporating GeoGebra and Excel Spreadsheets in some examples, and more. Mathematics All Around also is particularly well-suited for students who need to satisfy a one- or two-course requirement in math in order to transfer or graduate.

About the Author
Tom Pirnot began college as a music major at Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, intending to spend life as a performing musician. But, a dreaded, required physics course in his sophomore year changed his academic career path forever. In that course, he became fascinated by the beauty and power of mathematics, and began to take as many mathematics electives as possible.
Upon graduation (with a degree in music), he entered The Pennsylvania State University as a graduate student in mathematics. Because of his music background, he was assigned to organize and coordinate the very first liberal arts mathematics course offered at the University Park campus, beginning a love affair with liberal arts mathematics that continues to this day.
After earning his Ph.D. in abstract algebra, he joined what is now Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics and computer science, as well as over 150 sections of liberal arts mathematics. In addition to his teaching, Tom is also a popular speaker at local, statewide, and national mathematics conferences and workshops.
Tom has always been an innovator in the teaching of liberal arts mathematics, and his earlier liberal arts text, Mathematics: Tools and Models, with Dalton Hunkins, introduced many topics and ideas that are used in teaching liberal arts mathematics today.
He earned an excellence in teaching award from Kutztown University and was also awarded a Distinguished Teaching Chair from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Tom enjoys spending time with his loving wife Ann, and their four children and seven grandchildren. In his spare time, he likes to sing, fish, play tennis, and keep the weeds from overrunning their garden.
Margaret (Peggy) Moore has been a member of the mathematics faculty at the University of Southern Maine since 2004. A native of Maryland, Peggy has largely called Maine home since enrolling at Colby College for her undergraduate degree. A declared history major taking multivariable calculus for fun, Peggy’s path was forever changed when her faculty m
