Core Curriculum for Ambulatory Care Nursing

Modern professional ambulatory care nursing is a unique domain of specialty nursing practice that focuses on health care for individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. The 4th edition of the Core Curriculum for Ambulatory Care Nursing presents a comprehensive reference to support the mission of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN): To advance the art and science of ambulatory care nursing. The 20 chapters of this enhanced curriculum will further drive the development and recognition of the rapidly growing specialty of ambulatory care nursing. The Core Curriculum, 4th edition has been organized and expanded to address the educational needs of experienced nurses or those new to the specialty, as well as to provide a review for those seeking specialty certification as an ambulatory care nurse. New features of the 4th edition include: New and reconfigured chapters that address ambulatory care nursing professional communication, procedures and technical skills, leadership, nurse-sensitive indicators, and care coordination and transition management. Expanded content on telehealth technologies, interventions for health promotion and disease prevention, and needs of special populations at end-of-life and in sedated and surgical procedures. New content on emerging clinical issues which may be observed by nurses in almost any ambulatory care setting, such as pain management, dementia, opioid overdose, and re-emerging vaccine-preventable infectious diseases.
