This is the most comprehensive edition of the most used textbook in its discipline, with current references, color photos, and content excluded from later editions. It is college-level text that covers every major science involved in fire science - chemistry, properties of fires and flames, fire deaths (toxicology and pathology), lab analysis, and fire dynamics. Also has extensive information on explosions and explosives and scene investigation.

Book is perfectly organized from introductory chapters on basic chemistry and heat, to fires and flames (and self-heating processes), to chapters on fire growth and dynamics of room fires, scene investigation and documentation, court presentation, relevant legal considerations, and guidance on fatal fires and wildland fire scenes.

One possible negative might be that that the knowledge needed for proper and accurate fire investigations requires so much technical information that it is overwhelming to some readers.
