How do I return a purchased book?

Before following the return instructions, it's essential to verify your order type — whether it's a rental or a purchase. Each type has different return procedures, and using the wrong method may impact your refund eligibility.

You can return a purchase order to BooksRun within 30 days of delivery, as long as the item is in its original condition. Refunds are processed within 3-6 business days after the returned item is received and checked into the system.

Important note: before proceeding with the return, verify whether your order was purchased directly from BooksRun or one of our marketplace sellers. This information is visible in your order confirmation email, as well as your order details:

Items purchased from a marketplace seller should be return to the seller, not BooksRun. You may find each seller's return policy and guidelines by clicking either the seller's name or the "Customer support / returns" tab in your order details.

Return & Refund Limitations

Please note that we do not accept returns, provide replacements, or issue refunds for the following:

1. Undesired items purchased for less than $15

This includes discretionary reasons such as:

  • No longer needed

  • Ordered by mistake

  • Found a better price

  • Didn’t like purchase

  • Item arrived too late

  • Any other similar non-defect–related reasons

2. Orders outside the 30-day return window

We are unable to process any return, replacement, or refund requests submitted after the 30-day period has expired (the days count starts from the delivery date).

Step-by-Step Instructions

If your item is eligible for return (i.e., it does not fall under any of the limitations listed above), please follow the steps below:

  1. Open your order details or log into your account (if applicable).

  2. Press the button “Request return”.

  3. Choose the correct reason for return.

  4. For non-discretionary reasons, such as wrong book, damaged/defective item, please make sure to add a relevant comment and provide more details regarding the issue.

  5. To proceed with return, mark in the field "I have read and agree to Terms & Conditions".

  6. This way, the label will be generated automatically, and you will be able to return the item(s) to our facility.

    If you do not have an account with BooksRun, the system will prompt you to confirm the email address you used to place your order with us.

We reserve the right to charge a restocking fee of up to 15% and the return shipping costs for any refund that is not the result of our error.

If you have a rental order, such items are non-refundable, only purchase orders can be returned for a refund within a framework of our policy. For rental returns, any significant damage differing from the initial condition may result in a damage fee.

If a book is returned because the address was incorrect or incomplete, BooksRun cannot resend the book to the updated address from the same transaction. Instead, you will need to place a new order for the book.

Common Reasons for Item Returns

  1. Incomplete, Incorrect, or Illegible Addresses: Packages marked as "Undeliverable as Addressed" can result from issues such as incorrect house numbers, missing unit numbers in condominiums, or typographical errors.

  2. Unclaimed Packages: Orders left unclaimed at pickup points for longer periods can be returned.

  3. Billing Address Confusion: Mistakenly using the billing address instead of the shipping address can lead to delivery failures.

    Why Returned Items Cannot Be Re-Sent

  • Transaction Policies: Once an order is marked returned, it is processed as a separate transaction, initiating a refund rather than re-shipment.

  • Stock Considerations: The item may no longer be available in stock for re-shipping.

  • Operational Efficiencies: This policy ensures refunds can be processed promptly, allowing customers to re-order conveniently.
