How can we help?

Can I check a book’s condition before buying?

Updated on 06/2/2026

We use a different condition guide for items available for purchase and rent from our buyback condition policy. Understanding each condition category can help you make informed choices before placing an order.

You can easily check the book’s condition details on the product page or by searching via ISBN, title, or author.

Note: While we can fully understand how important it is on the buyer's side to have a clear idea of how the book looks before making a purchase, only stock images of the item's cover set by default can be provided due to the high volume of our inventory.

Book condition categories explained

Here’s what each condition label means on BooksRun:

New:

  • Exactly as issued by the publisher

  • May be shrink-wrapped

  • May include supplementary materials (if listed by publisher)

  • Ideal for those who want a pristine, complete product

Like New:

  • Minimal to no signs of wear

  • May be missing original shrink wrap

  • Book intact but may have minor damage

Very Good:

  • Minor signs of limited use

  • All pages included; text fully legible

  • May have light markings or highlighting

  • Good choice for buyers seeking quality with minor imperfections

Good:

  • General wear and tear expected

  • May include markings, highlighting, or stickers

  • All pages are included and readable

Acceptable:

  • More visible signs of wear:

    • Bent corners

    • Stains

    • Markings or highlighting

  • All text is legible and pages are intact

Editions and printings

Please keep in mind the distinctions between first editions and printing. Our current itinerary system is not able to log the exact printing of the book, only the publishing year and the edition.

Buyer considerations & reporting issues

If you receive a book that does not meet the condition criteria stated above (e.g., missing pages or significant damage), please let us know within 7 days of receiving your order.

To ensure your satisfaction with the purchase, consider reading the product description for specific details, and if necessary, request additional information or clarification. We also offer a 30-day return policy, providing you with the option to return books if the product doesn't meet your expectations.

Specifics of buying a used book

Used books do not guarantee the inclusion of access codes, dust covers, toys, CDs, DVDs, workbooks, study guides, manuals, labs, maps, flashcards, sheets, foldouts, digital companions, iClickers, or bookmarks unless specifically mentioned in the product description. Supplementary materials, like bundled media or digital access, are explicitly noted if available.

Additionally, used books may not include shrink wraps, dust covers, or boxed set cases.

Ex-library items sometimes have stickers or stamps, and remainder books might have edge marks.

How to look up items

Use the search bar at the top of the BooksRun website to find detailed listings. If an item you are looking for is unavailable, you can add it to your wishlist to receive notifications when it becomes available again.

Search Using:

  1. ISBN (Recommended)

    • Ensures you're viewing the correct edition

  2. Book Title

  3. Author's Name

Listing will show:

  • Format: Paperback, hardcover, eBook, etc.

  • Publisher

  • Edition

  • Detailed condition description

Due to our lean staffing approach, our teams do not have the ability to respond to specific questions about product details (print of the book, edition, format, publisher, compatibility, answer keys, dimensions, page count, language, publication date, etc.)

If you have questions regarding the content, structure, or usage of a book (especially textbooks or academic material), please:

  • Contact the publisher directly for the most accurate and thorough information

  • Refer to the publisher’s website or product page for additional details on content and included materials.

Note: if you don't see the buttons "Buy" or "Rent" reflected near the book, it means we do not possess any remaining copies of this particular title in our inventory. If you have an account on our website, you have the option to include this book in your wishlist. By doing so, you will receive notifications when the item becomes available for purchase or rent again.
