What books do you accept for sale?

For our buyback program, we accept all types of books. It's not required that the book was purchased from us first for it to be eligible for buyback. We accept books purchased from any seller, as long as it has an ISBN and complies with our buyback acceptance criteria. BooksRun’s system relies on ISBNs to track, process, and generate quotes efficiently, making ISBNs a crucial requirement for buyback eligibility.

For inquiries about the condition of your books, please refer to our Buyback Condition Guide.

Follow these steps to check your book’s eligibility for buyback:

1. Locate the ISBN

ISBN is a unique 13-digit number that identifies a specific edition of a book or book-like publication. It can be found on the back cover of each book.

ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 are the same. ISBN-10 is an older version, and in some older editions, there will be no ISBN-13. Newer titles have both ISBN-10 and ISBN-13.

  • You can also find the ISBN on the copyright page.

  • It is usually a 13-digit number.

2. Enter the ISBN in the Search Bar

Alternatively, you may use our BooksRun app that has an integrated barcode scanner. It will help with adding books quickly and efficiently.

3. Look for the Sell Option

  • If your book is eligible for buyback, you will see the “Sell” option appear on the right side

  • If the book is not accepted, no sell option will be displayed

Some of the items that are currently not eligible for sale are as follows:

  • Books with ISBN that start with 979, our system is not yet updated to process such ISBN.

  • Books without ISBN, if there is no ISBN on the back cover or copyright page, the system won't be able to process the book.

  • Rebound books, if the binding was somehow altered (for example, spiral added to a paperback book).

  • Not for sale / Free sample / Review copies, etc.; such books may also be marked as "Complimentary copy".

  • Access cards with revealed access code, even if the code was never used, as such information will have to be verified with the publisher. For books without ISBNs, BooksRun may retain discretion to dispose of such items if sent erroneously. Customers should ensure all books contain valid ISBNs before submitting.

  • Books with strong cigarette smell.

For more detailed information on the items we accept for sale, please refer to the information below. We have covered most of the popular inquiries received from our sellers.

  • Can I send a standalone book, with no additional materials?

While most books can be sent as a standalone, some books require that additional materials be included in order to qualify for buyback. These may include, but not limited to:

  • Access codes/cards (must be unopened and unscratched)

  • Flashcards

  • CDs / DVDs

  • Batteries (for iClickers)

  • Workbooks

  • Study guides

  • Answer keys

  • Foldouts

  • Manuals

  • Booklets

  • Dust covers

If the item requires an access code, this will be stated in the product title or comments. Additionally, the publisher will state directly on their website if any particular ISBN covers only the book, or if the supplementary materials are also covered by this ISBN.

You may also find this information on the copyright page of the book.

  • Can I send only one book from the set?

To be sure, check the ISBN of your book on the copyright page. If the ISBN says it corresponds to Volume 1 or Volume 2 only, this book can be sold to us as a standalone under the correct ISBN.

However, if the ISBN of the book, as well as the book title, refers to it exclusively as a set, it means that the ISBN covers all the items in the set, and they cannot be sold separately.

Please note: multi-volume collections under the same cover will have a different ISBN than a set with separate books.

  • Can I sell an ex-library book?

We do accept ex-library books for sale; however, such books can only be quoted in "Acceptable" condition due to prominent library stamps and stickers such books usually have.

  • My book is a collectors' item, published back in the 1900s. Will you buy it?

At the moment, we specialize on mostly mainstream modern publications, and will not be able to provide a correct price for the value of your book. For any books without an ISBN that are an old or vintage publication, we usually advise selling through specialized websites, such as Biblio.com Alternatively, sellers can explore local bookstores or platforms specializing in rare or self-published works to find an appropriate market for such books.

  • Do you buy international editions?

Yes, we do buy international editions as long as the ISBN of the book corresponds to the international edition, and not the regular US edition.

  • Do you accept workbooks for sale?

Yes, we accept workbooks for sale. Please note that workbooks should come without markings; kindly make sure to remove any pencil markings as well prior to sale.

  • My book doesn't have a dust jacket anymore, is that okay?

Yes, you can sell a book without a dust jacket to us; however, please note that such books cannot be quoted under “Very Good” condition.

  • Will you buy flashcards?

Yes, we do accept sets of cards and flashcards. However, the items cannot be quoted as “Very Good” unless they come in a shrink wrap; additionally, you will need to ensure all the cards from the set are present before finalizing the sale.

  • Do you buy loose-leaf books?

Yes, we buy books with all types of binding. If you have a loose-leaf/a la Carte edition, make sure that the ISBN you have quoted corresponds to this particular edition, not a hardcover or paperback. The correct ISBN of a loose-leaf book may be located on the back cover or the copyright page.

For more information on selling loose-leaf textbooks, please check out our article on the topic.

  • Do you buy anything else other than books?

Generally, we accept only what is listed on our website, can be found using ISBN, and is not marked as "not accepted." We do buy CDs, DVDs, iClickers, coloring books, notebooks, and other items that come with an ISBN.

Please note that coloring books and notebooks should be sold without any markings.
