Absolutely; the introduction to each piece establishes a brief writing prompt to set up the objective. The piece is followed up with mire thought provoking questions and ideas for research. The topics are current and bring attention to the use of language in our society. Every student should be “aware” of the multitude of ways language is used to inform or deceive our society.

I believe this book is in its 13th edition. There are some very good and trusted pieces but each edition is more current and relatable by new generation of communicators. It is important for the student to keep up with the growing lack of integrity and provide them with the means to find the truth in the information they rely on.

It is the only text book that helps students become aware of the power of language and how it is used to “educate” society. It is the only text book I have found that helps me to teach my students to believe nothing they hear and only have of what they see. Be aware how language is used.
