About the Author
Edward Grabb is a professor emeritus in the Department of Sociology at Western University. His areas of interest include Canadian and American society, social inequality and stratification, political sociology, race and ethnic relations, methodology and statistics. During his distinguished career, his articles appeared in such journals as the American Sociological Review, Social Forces, the Canadian Journal of Political Science, and the Canadian Journal of Sociology. Edward Grabb is also the co-author (with James Curtis) of Regions Apart: The Four Societies of Canada and The United States, also published by OUP Canada. Jeffrey Reitz is the director of ethnic, immigration, and pluralism studies at the Munk School of Affairs and professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto. His research examines the social, economic and political experiences of immigrant and ethnic populations, and he has a number of projects underway in Canada. His current comparative research examines the experience of Muslim immigration in France and Canada, based on extensive quantitative data and new qualitative interviews. Monica Hwang is an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology at St. Thomas More College at the University of Saskatchewan. She earned her BA (Hons) in sociology and French from Western University and received the university's Gold Medal at convocation. After completing her MA at Western, she pursued a PhD in sociology at the University of British Columbia, which she completed in 2013. While in graduate school, she published two book chapters and four articles, which have appeared in Canadian Ethnic Studies, the American Review of Canadian Studies, and the Canadian Journal of Political Science. She was named UBC's outstanding PhD graduate of 2014-2015.
