Great news! We are starting a new column where we’ll recommend books for zodiac signs to read each month. We hope that our recommendations will be fun and inspiring. This month, it’s all about Gemini!

Gemini
May 21–June 21

Geminis are exceptionally charismatic and intelligent. Being prone to childlike curiosity and analysis, they long for knowledge, which is why they always ask questions and seem to know a little bit about everything. Energetic, active, and always the life of the party, Geminis are seldom prone to melancholy. Therefore, a book based on historical facts or a suspense thriller is way more appealing to them than a romantic or fantasy novel. A suspense thriller based on real facts is an ideal combo for them. Though, all in all, they will be eager to give a chance to any book as long as it gives information and food for reflection.

The three books we’ve selected are from different fields, but it only seems fitting that a Gemini should read them. Here is the list:

Sweat: A History of Exercise

By Bill Hayes

What Should Gemini Read? 1

We’ll start with the book that can satiate Geminis’ interest for information and facts about exercise. According to the title, Sweat is a book about working out and its history. But it’s more a travelogue and research about how our bodies and their acts define us. Bill Hayes writes very entertainingly about how he used to run, swim, work out, bike, do yoga, aerobics, boxing, and biking (in no particular chronological order), tying his own experiences with the experiences that, at different times, various famous people had. Hippocrates, Plato, Galen, Susan B. Anthony, Jack LaLanne, and Jane Fonda make an appearance in the book, as well as Girolamo Mercuriale, a Renaissance physician who admired the ancient Greek “art of exercising.” A great deal of Sweat is devoted to his book De arte gymnastica (written in 1569). We do think that Geminis will find the book fascinating. As knowledgeable as they probably are about exercise, they won’t be able to resist learning more about its cultural and scientific history and how it evolved over time.

Shadow Man: An Elusive Psycho Killer and the Birth of FBI Profiling

By Ron Franscell

What Should Gemini Read? 2

Our second recommendation is the story of the first-ever U.S. profiling case. Based on real events (exactly what Geminis love), Shadow Manis a nightmarish story of the serial killer who killed four people in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is set in the period when criminal profilers were not common in the U.S. (or anywhere in the world). The book shows how the work of the first FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit—a creation of the serial killer’s psychological profile—helped solve the case. Why do we think the story is gripping? For one thing, it’s a true story. For another, it is riveting to follow how profiling was being formed and how investigators went the extra mile to help the victims. We do recommend this thrilling book to Geminis and everyone who loves suspense.

Yves Saint Laurent: A Biography

By Laurence Benaim

What Should Gemini Read? 3

Yves Saint Laurent: A Biography is the third book on our today’s reading list for Geminis. The book is, according to Kirkus Reviews, “a meticulously detailed, overly worshipful biography” of one of the greatest couturiers of the 20th century. Why do we think that it would attract Geminis’ attention? In the book, both the world of haute couture and the empire that revolutionized the fashion industry are described in vivid detail. It is also the first biography of Yves Saint Laurent written in English. It contains exclusive interviews with his partner, family members, friends, and famous people who knew and worked with him. It’s such a thoroughly documented biography of all the events of the designer’s life that it gives a feeling of eavesdropping on him. Even a playlist that accompanied Saint Laurent’s shows is in the book. We recommend the book to everyone, even those who find fashion an uncharted territory. Just be prepared for 544 pages.
