Ever wonder why textbooks tend to be unreasonably expensive even for the average college student? Well, you’re not the only one. This is one of the most current problems we college students face. Various surveys have been taken by American universities to estimate how much college students spend on textbooks, and this ranges from $600 to even $1000 depending on which university you attend (private university or community college). Also taking into consideration the expenses for school supplies and material, this could easily top over $1000. Yes, that’s a pretty scary number. So, why do textbooks cost so much? We did some research and here are a few reasons why: Continue reading “Why Do Textbooks Cost So Much?”

If you are a book lover like me or a student, the chances are that you have large stockpiles of books lying around your house which you no longer find useful and want to get rid of. You might want to give them away for a good cause, sell them for some quick cash or just plan on making some space in your shelves; no matter why you want to do it, there are many ways to get rid of your old books.
While many authors offer multiple techniques to teach you how to read faster and read more, not many actually help you be more productive. Being efficient depends on being able to apprehend and remember more out of all the information consumed. And you know how these days we spend our time receiving information from everywhere around us, as people and companies selfishly fight for our attention. We are constantly in the state of an information overload, which makes our brain decide for us what will be marked as “valuable” and remembered, and what will be put into the remote corners of our memory.
So the new semester is already here, and while it may indicate a promising and purely exciting time, it also (with no intent to upset you) is the time when you spend your savings and hope you still have some money left to spend with you friends. I mean, sure, the situation isn’t that somber for everyone, but the amount of money students spend on textbooks is just absurd. And the numbers are growing. Since 2006 textbook prices steadily move up, and in 2016 that increase reached 73%. And while you can name a bunch of reasons to justify this pattern of behavior of publishing giants, it does literally nothing good to your own pocket.
We’ve all heard horrid stories about graduates living their lives haunted by the debt trails of their precious diplomas. And while we might be under illusions that it will not be our case, it will be a good idea to take some precautions. Designed by the government education system has been having its way with college students for way too long, so don’t let them take advantage of your lack of knowledge. So what to do to ease your way into adulthood and not end up in the purely surviving mode? Use these loopholes in the system (more like tips carefully gathered by us) and save up for your future.
Before sending us your books, it is important that you make sure they fit our acceptance criteria and condition guidelines. Please carefully read the description of the item on BooksRun or a publisher’s website when entering the ISBN, including following criteria: type of cover, presence of supplementary materials such as CDs/DVDs, access codes, multiple volumes.
1) Things you need to pay attention to:
- Loose leaf editions
Loose leaf / a la Carte editions frequently have ISBNs of hardcovers or paperbacks on them, and it often confuses students who are willing to sell them. Correct ISBN of a loose leaf is usually located on the copyright page. Some loose leaf editions are custom made and do not have a separate ISBN and therefore, cannot be accepted for buyback as they cannot be given a quote.
- Multiple volume sets
If your book has only one ISBN and it corresponds to a set with many volumes, then you need to send us the whole set. We cannot accept only one book from the whole set for buyback if it does not have a separate ISBN and therefore, cannot be quoted.
- Stickers and tape
New semester has successfully started and you’ve gotten (more or less) into the swing of things. If you attend a medical school, you should definitely know that textbooks tend to be really expensive, not to mention the fact that the tuition fee and the study duration exceed all expectations. In order not to end up spending a fortune, you can buy used textbooks or sell them back after the semester (while renting is also an option).
You are lucky in the sense that used medical textbooks are often an equivalent of a goldmine. For example, Anatomy & Physiology course is exteremly popular, and students prefer to use secondhand books. Below, you can see the list of most popular buybacks on the medical subject:
